getting involved

We encourage everyone to join one of a variety of smaller groups who meet together regularly outside of the church.

Some meet just for food! – or for discussion, singing, praying or bible study.

These groups are a great way to get to know people who have similar interests to you, especially in a larger church.

Home groups

The Home Groups reflect the wider church family in worship, prayer, study, service and fellowship in a small group where you can feel more comfortable.

Home Groups meet at a variety of venues and times usually fortnightly, with a break in the summer.

How do I join a Home Group?

If you would like to join a Home Group please pick up a leaflet from the linkway giving you full up to date information, or contact the Home Group coordinators,

Chat@St.Matts ….

This is the place to come to enjoy other people’s company whilst eating home made cake and having a cup of tea!   We meet on the first Thursday of the month from 2.30pm-4.30pm.   Sometimes we just chat and share experiences, and have a laugh whilst the more energetic amongst us enjoy puzzles and games. Approximately 25-30 people attend both from the church and also those who live locally.  For those who need a lift, please contact the church office as we can offer a lift in the St. Matthias minibus.

Men's breakfast

The men's breakfast usually takes place on the second Saturday of the month.

The location for the breakfast and the speaker varies each month.

St. Matt's Cats

St Matts' Cats is a gospel choir for singers that haven't had any formal training or previous experience of singing in a choir but have always relished the opportunity to have a go! The emphasis is really about having fun and enjoying the sound.

The choir was started in June 2015 by people who were inspired by Geraldine Latty, a gospel singer, a musician, a leader and a founder of several gospel choirs in the UK.

Rehearsals are held every other week at 19.15 at St Matthias Church.

St Matts’ Cats’ repertoire includes traditional spirituals and gospel songs.

'New singers always welcome - please contact the church office for more details'

St. Matt's Knits

Matt’s knits are a new social group who meet on Tuesdays from 12 noon-1330 in the Mary Alexander lounge,  to knit or crochet, chat and enjoy a cup of coffee together. Everyone welcome whether you can come on a regular or occasional basis.

Our first project was to knit squares for Africa, to date we have created 50 squares  which we will be sending out to Africa at Easter to be made up into blankets by local women. Each blanket needs 35 squares can we reach 70 by Easter?

Our next project is to make hats and blankets for premature babies which will go to local hospitals.

Ideas for future projects include knitted animals for the toy ark which has lost its inhabitants!

Knitted gifts for a craft fair to raise funds for the church.  Knitting hats for Mission to Seamen.

Thanks to Cecil who delivered some knitted baby clothes for us to our CMS partner Nicci Maxwell at Potters Village, Kisoro.

Other projects and ideas welcome.

A small charge of £2 to cover room hire and materials
