Welcome to St Matthias’ Church

Whatever reason you are trying to find out more about the church, we’ll be delighted to see you!

We’re a church family of around 250 people of all ages and you will see on these web pages that we offer a wide range of styles of church service and activities, to which everyone is welcome, and that these don’t just take place on Sundays.  We even have our own Preschool.

Don’t worry if you’re unsure how you’ll manage with even small children or babies.  We expect children to be themselves – children!  We have good level access and toilets too.

We’ve recently moved to gathering for two main Sunday morning services on most weeks  The more informal ones at 930am are in the Hall, often sat around tables, and have teaching groups for children.  The more formal ones are in the church at 11am (as well as an early-bird traditional language service at 8am).

However we’ve outgrown the space in the hall, so we’re about to move the hall services into the church.  The Wellspring Project  is underway to enable this to happen and to ensure the church is fit to serve the community for the next 30 years.

We regularly offer courses to explore what Christianity is all about for those who are sceptical – and those who are less so.  However if there is a particular matter you would like to discuss with us, please feel free to contact the clergy so that we can arrange a time to meet.

Like any church family, some of us have a lot of faith, some of us have little. However, we journey with each other, discovering more of the incredible love that God the Father has for us, and of the fulfilment of living that we find in Jesus Christ.  While we take God seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously and enjoy being part of his family in this part of Torquay.

If you do come along for a service please make yourself known to one of the clergy or welcome teams so that we can begin to get to know you better.

We look forward to meeting you.

May God bless you                  John  (the Rector).
